CHANDOZ is a modification of “Chandos” which is a name taken from the story, “The Letter of Lord Chandos”
by Hugo von Hofmannsthal written in 1902. In this work of prose, fictional and epistolary, Lord Chandos recounts
to Francis Bacon his utter inability to write or to communicate verbally. This somewhat contradictory message
found favor with literary modernists. It endures in the twenty-first century as a warning to all of
us: the ability to tell each other what we think is crucial to our survival.
G. O. chose chandoz as a signal in his email address, his web site and elsewhere (the original form, “chandos”, had been claimed by others),
and offers it to you to contemplate.
